Arcom has enhanced its Embedded Linux development kit for the 133MHz PC/104 Pegasus embedded PC.

This hardware/software development kit provides a proven and ready-to-run platform for embedded Linux with an option for running embedded Java applications using IBM's high performance J9 JVM.

The list of capabilities has now been extended to include Java class and C library client support for the MQIsdp protocol (MQ Integrator, Scada device protocol).

This ultra-lightweight protocol lets users exchange telemetry data between a Scada client device and an IBM WebSphere MQ Integrator (WMQI) broker using a simple publish/subscribe messaging model.

The WMQI broker lets users transform and distribute message data in near real time (from sensors, automatic metering equipment and status monitoring devices) to different enterprise applications and databases.

The MQIsdp client application maintains a low data overhead by publishing data on a 'report-by-exception' basis, rather than by continuous polling.

This architecture offers cost effective communications over a low bandwidth dial up telephone network, GSM/GPRS wireless modem or even using a satellite link.

Arcom has made it easy to achieve the first steps in users' development programmes by including working examples of the MQIsdp client (for both C and Java) to establish communications and publish data to an IBM WebSphere MQ Integrator broker hosted by Arcom.

The entire development kit is based on the GNU/Linux operating system using the proven and robust 2.4 kernel.

The optional IBM JVM and any Java based application can load and execute directly from the onboard 16Mbyte Flash memory using the high reliability compressed Flash filing system (JFFS2).

This comprehensive development kit includes the Pegasus PC/104 single board computer fitted with 32Mbyte DRAM and 16Mbyte of Flash, PSU, rugged enclosure, serial and Ethernet cable set, quickstart manual and the development kit utility CD.

Also included is a copy of IBM's award winning WebSphere Studio Device Developer IDE development tools which lets users quickly develop, debug and deploy their Java based applications.

The Pegasus is a fanless 133MHz AMD SC520 (Am5x86) based processor board offering 10/100baseTx Ethernet, four serial ports, 128Kbyte of fast SRAM, printer port, IDE interface and expansion via the PC/104 bus.

The product is a standard PC/104 size board (3.6 by 3.8in) and is targeted at deeply embedded communication applications.
