Big new orders for Arcom

Arcom Control Systems today announced that it has signed two major contracts with new customers: Logica plc in the UK and TAB Ltd of New South Wales in Australia

Arcom Control Systems, the Cambridge-based supplier of communication and control technology, today announced that it has signed two major contracts with new customers: Logica plc in the UK and TAB Ltd of New South Wales in Australia.

The £2m contract from TAB in Australia is for the supply of processor boards to control and monitor gaming machines in New South Wales.

TAB operates the Centralised Monitoring System (CMS) for the New South Wales Government to ensure high levels of integrity in the gaming industry.

The CMS will enable electronic assessment and collection of duty for almost 100,000 gaming devices in approximately 3,250 venues across the State.

The system is to be fully operational by the beginning of next year, and Arcom's initial contract is for the supply of 25,000 units on this project.

Delivery of these will have been completed by the middle of July.

The Arcom processor board provides a direct Internet protocol connection over ethernet from the gaming machine.

The £1m contract from Logica plc is for the supply of more than 1000 remote terminal units and 150 communications gateways.

The units are to be supplied as part of Logica's contract with Transco, the UK gas pipeline company, to develop and implement its next generation of network control computer systems and associated telemetry.

Arcom's terminals will carry out local control and monitoring functions as well as communicating with Logica's host computer systems.

The communications gateways will be installed at hill-top sites to concentrate data communications and to provide a link between various communications media, including satellite, radio and land-lines, all using Internet protocols.
