Smartwriter handwriting recognition software from ART Advanced Recognition Technologies will provide the ICR (intelligent character recognition) engine for Logitech's new io digital pen

ART's advanced handwriting recognition solution provides Logitech's io digital pen users with the ability to index and search their Logitech io, created documents, as well as address emails, and insert calendar and "to do" entries into electronic organisers. The handwriting recognition occurs in ICR fields preprinted onto paper.

With the advent of Logitech's io solution, people can now interface with their PC by writing on paper the way that they have done for thousands of years, synchronising their handwritten information directly into the computer via a USB connection.

Logitech believes that the combination of the pen-and-paper metaphor, coupled with ART's advanced recognition solution, will dramatically change the way that people capture, store and retrieve information.

"As a company long-dedicated to the interface between people and the digital world, we believe that the digital pen and paper concept is a natural next step", said Chris Bull, director of marketing for Retail Pointing Devices.

"ART's technology and its business approach are consistent with our vision of extending this interface beyond the desktop, to wherever people work, play and communicate".

"ART is pleased with the welcome that the Smartwriter has received from Logitech", said Nir Ben-Dor, ART's director of sales and business development.

"We are confident that Logitech's strategic partners and final customers will be equally delighted with Smartwriter's high-performance technology".
