With the Halo suite of design-for-manufacturing (DFM) tools already receiving a warm reception from manufacturing-side users, Aprio Technologies will give Design Automation Conference (DAC) delegates an advanced peek at the EDA company's complementary manufacturing-aware, design-side technology. The 2005 Design Automation Conference is to be held from 13th to 17th June in Anaheim, California. Aprio has also unveiled the initial list of partners collaborating on the design-side phase of what will be the industry's first complete DFM solution.

In the partner program: 'winners circle', EDA vendors, IP providers, equipment manufacturers, silicon foundries, and technology distributors will join the first four partners: OEA International, Silicon Canvas, Silicon Navigator and Tool Corporation.

Plenty of existing DFM tools focus on post tape-out enhancements, with little early consideration of the formidable constraints that manufacturers face when the chip is handed over the tape-out wall.

Aprio's research indicates that successful chip development at the sub-100nm level requires the incorporation of manufacturing effects in the beginning stages of design.

By first releasing in January 2005 the Halo suite, Aprio broke new ground by addressing some glaring DFM needs of the underserved manufacturing community.

In addition, Aprio laid the foundation for creating a next-generation design tool that finally incorporates both static (rule-based) and dynamic (model-based) manufacturing effects, an integral component of a true DFM flow.

Aprio created the Winners Circle partner programme to allow additional DFM visionaries to help integrate tools, which are widely used along the DFM flow, with Aprio's design-side technology before the final product is available for purchase.

Today, an Aprio customer has access to the first tool to unify circuit, geometry and process-based applications with a DFM foundation that stands up to deep sub-100nm processes.

With the Winners Circle in place, Aprio reckons its customers can also count on: an unparalleled combination of tools and technologies for 100nm and below ICs; increased knowledge and expertise in advanced applications and specific technology flows; rapid and successful implementation of tools with the help of trained and experienced DFM professionals; and seamless integration with complementary technologies that can be readily adopted.

'Partner programmes have always been important in making new EDA technologies viable for customers who require integration with their existing tools', explained Randy Smith, Aprio's VP of Marketing.

'Because a true DFM flow consists of many elements, some of which the industry hasn't addressed until now, a partner programme like Aprio's Winners Circle isn't just important - it is critical'.

'We're pleased that our first Winners Circle partners also recognise the urgency needed to usher in a true DFM solution'.
