Two new wideband peak power meters are designed for the demands of rapid-rise-time radar measurement and the latest 4G wireless applications

Anritsu has launched two new wideband peak power meters, the single sensor input ML2495A and the dual sensor input ML2496A. These high performance instruments are designed for the demands of rapid-rise-time radar measurement and the latest 4G wireless applications. Both radar and OFDM/WCDMA signals require high bandwidth power measurements in order to track the power trajectory.

Conventional power meters cannot accurately track the envelope and this leads to errors in design, manufacturing and maintenance.

As the measurement is independent of the protocol or modulation scheme, accurate measurements are easily achieved on multicarrier and multichannel systems.

The ML2490A series has been designed with an industry leading 65MHz mainframe bandwidth and displays a typical rise time of 8ns, with 1ns resolution when used with the new MA2411B pulse sensor.

Single and multipulse radar signals can be precisely measured using multiple gates, markers and a suite of dedicated pulse functions.

The ML2490A will measure the peak, average and crest factor of the both continuous OFDM and framed OFDM and is suitable for WLAN and WiMAX applications.

The ML2496A dual input version solves many of the measurement problems associated with designing and manufacturing amplifiers.

OFDM/WCDMA modulation requires the power amplifier to precisely track the symbol power envelope to keep the error rate low and avoid generating broadband noise.

Power amplifier designers can use the ML2496A to optimise the gain and output power of transmitters under pulsed or high crest factor conditions.

The quality of the amplifier can be measured graphically with the CCDF function.

The ML2490A series is fully compatible with all Anritsu sensors and is also a highly accurate CW power meter, providing truly universal power measurements for all applications.
