Spectrum analyser extends
to 3G coverage
The MT8220A UMTS Master is a portable handheld Node B analyser that brings the unprecedented size, performance, and cost advantages of Anritsu's Spectrum Master to 3G/UMTS applications
Covering the UMTS ranges of 824-894 and 1710-2170MHz, as well 2300-2700MHz, the MT8220A can conduct both RF and demodulated measurements. In addition, it functions as a spectrum analyser with continuous frequency coverage up to 7.1GHz, with best-in-class DANL (displayed average noise level) of typically -153dBm at 1GHz and built-in smart measurements for easy operation.

The MT8220A is ideal for 3G/UMTS service providers, contractors, and installers who deploy, install, and maintain UMTS/W-CDMA Node B equipment.
The MT8220A can be used in the field to conduct all the necessary UMTS/W-CDMA RF measurements.
A self-calibrating RF front-end and a precision frequency reference ensure that RF measurements are highly accurate.

RF measurements that can be made with the MT8220A include adjacent channel leakage power, occupied bandwidth and a spectral emission mask, for accurate analysis of a basestation's output.
For demodulation measurements, the MT8220A has a code domain power display that can display all 512 orthogonal variable spreading factor (OVSF) codes in the UMTS/W-CDMA signal relative to total power or pilot power.
There is also a codogram display that identifies code power variations over time and traffic activity over time.
The MT8220A measures EVM (error vector magnitude) with a resolution of 0.1%, for highly accurate determination of a transmitter's modulation quality.
The MT8220A has an over the air (OTA) option that allows technicians to perform measurements while staying in their trucks.
The OTA measurement can detect the six strongest scrambling codes, and display them in both graphical and table formats.
Recognising the increased concern for health and safety, Anritsu has designed the MT8220A to support the European ECC (02) 04 recommendation for measuring nonionising electromagnetic radiation that provides a new concept in EMI testing.
Anritsu partnered with Antenessa, a leading provider of technologies that assess systems for human exposure to electromagnetic fields, to develop custom software that plots data from both GSM channel power and UMTS/W-CDMA CPICH (power in the common pilot channel) measurements for EMI analysis.
Because the MT8220A is built on the Spectrum Master platform, it is extremely lightweight and durable.
Its large 8.5in, daylight-viewable TFT display makes it easy to see measurement results, regardless of weather conditions.
In addition to eight standard languages, two user-defined custom languages can be installed in the MT8220A.
For downloading data, the MT8220A features CompactFlash, USB 2.0 and Ethernet 10/100 interfaces.
