Portable jitter analysis for
SDH and SONET systems
Anritsu has introduced the MP1580A, a portable jitter analyser for 2.5/10Gbit/s SDH/SONET fibre-optic transmission systems
The new analyser meets the need for jitter analysis in R and D, manufacturing, installation and maintenance of SDH/SONET transmission equipment, lines and systems; and R and D and manufacturing of clock signal interfaces and devices. A critical issue for SDH systems is the generation of and tolerance to jittered signals for each item of transmission equipment in the network.

In 1998, Anritsu was the first company to offer a solution for jitter testing at 10Gbit/s with its MP1777A.
Now it is announcing the MP1580A portable jitter analyser, an easy-to-use solution fully compliant with the latest ITU-T O.172, ITU-T G.812 and G.813 (10GHz wander measurement) standards, and the Bellcore GR-1377 standard.
The MP1580A is a unique and powerful solution for analysing jitter at the standard STM-16/64 and OC-48/192 bitrates.
It is small, portable and weighs less than 10kg.
If used as a stand-alone test instrument, it can generate and measure jitter on electrical clock signal interfaces in a simple operation.
In addition, when used in combination with Anritsu's MP1570A SONET/SDH/PDH/ATM analyser, it allows the evaluation of characteristics such as jitter tolerance, jitter transfer and jitter generation.
All these measurements can be performed easily on digital transmission lines, systems and devices.
A number of features make the MP1580A even more powerful.
For example, jitter characteristics at 10GHz can be measured with 80MHz bandwidth, with the optional wideband optical receiver card for the MP1570A.
