Eurotech has selected the TPO 3.5in QVGA LTPS TFT display from Anders Electronics for its Zypad wrist-worn computer.

Eurotech, a company that dedicates itself to the research, development, production and marketing of miniature computers and high processing capacity computers, has selected the TPO 3.5in QVGA LTPS (low temperature poly-silicon) TFT display from Anders Electronics for its Zypad wrist-worn computer.

Launched in June this year, the Zypad enables users working in demanding environments where computers are an essential tool to work with a network connection but without needing to be in a fixed position.

As a result, firefighters, paramedics and warehouse staff for example, can benefit from complete freedom of movement, while keeping both hands free.

In order for the Zypad to be a practical, comfortable alternative to a conventional PC, Eurotech's engineers had to first overcome a number of design challenges such as weight and wearability.

The circuits had to be miniaturised as much as possible to keep the Zypad light and wearable.

As it is intended for use both indoors and outdoors, one of the key criteria was a screen that could be read in both bright sunlight and low light conditions, while operating with very low power consumption to maximise battery life.

To maximise flexibility, the display was also required to have a touchscreen option to complement the navigation keys.

Eurotech selected the TPO 3.5in QVGA LTPS TFT display through CPF Electronics, Anders Electronics' local agent in Italy, as it was the only display product that could meet all these criteria.

These transflective displays are ideally suited to portable, battery-powered devices and the advanced LTPS technology delivers higher brightness and better contrast ratios and pixel density than conventional amorphous silicon TFT displays of comparable size.

"A key component for the Zypad was a display that offered excellent transflective characteristics, good mechanical size and low power consumption - all at the right price", says Roberto Turchi, Eurotech's Marketing and Sales Manager, Wearable Computers.

"We evaluated several different display products, and Anders Electronics was the company that could meet all of our requirements and deliver on time".

"The local technical support and expertise that Anders Electronics' local support staff gives us is tremendously beneficial".
