Analog Devices has introduced a JFET-input op amp and a family of low power voltage references that have been optimised to achieve an unparalleled combination of high precision, ultrasmall footprint and very low power consumption for industrial and instrumentation applications. The ADA4000-1 offers the best precision of any op amp in its class with 80% lower input bias current and 50% lower offset voltage than competing solutions, enabling precise measurement and control functions in devices that rely on the highest accuracy, such as patient monitoring equipment, data acquisition and safety component systems. ADI's innovative iPolar trench isolation process technology allows the device to reduce power consumption by 75% in a package that is 75% smaller than existing solutions, reducing or eliminating the need for heatsinks or cooling fans typically required for equipment operating at harsh industrial temperatures.

Priced lower than competing devices, the ADA4000-1 brings a new level of precision and value to industrial, instrumentation and other high-voltage applications.

Analog Devices' new ADR12x family of low-power voltage references combines high precision and low-voltage operation within a very small TSOT-23 package.

The devices feature the lowest temperature drift performance (9ppm/C) over the extended industrial temperature range (-40 to +125C) - a 10% improvement over competing devices - and require very little supply current, only 85uA, for operation.

This improvement in precision within a small footprint is optimised by the trimming efficiencies of iPolar process technology.

The ADR12x family's combines low power, high precision and compact size, making them the perfect companion chip for data convertors used in handheld and battery-powered industrial and medical instrumentation equipment that require robust performance in space- and power-constrained environments.

The ADR12x are also suitable for automotive electronics applications such as battery monitoring and engine control units.

The devices work well with ADI's 16bit Pulsar ADCs, including the new AD761x family.

'ADI continues to develop products with specifications optimised to meet the exacting needs of industrial manufacturers', said Steve Sockolov, Product Line Director, Precision Signal Processing group, Analog Devices.

'The requirements of industrial and instrumentation systems are driving the need for amplifiers and voltage references that provide higher levels of precision, smaller package sizes and which improve layout flexibility'.

'The ability of these products to combine accuracy, small size and minimal power consumption, means industrial designers will no longer have to struggle with trading off performance, price, power and package size'.

The ADA4000-1 has extremely low input bias current of 10pA maximum, addressing the needs of applications, such as photodiode amplifiers, where current error sources cannot be tolerated.

Operating on a supply voltage from +/-5 to +/-15V, the device features input offset voltage of just 1mV and low noise of 15nV/(rt)Hz.

Bandwidth is 6MHz; and the high slew rate is 20V/us.

The combination of precision and speed makes the device well-suited for reference buffers, level shifting and active filters in industrial and instrumentation equipment; and the addition of high input impedance makes it ideal for temperature, pressure and force sensing in industrial applications.

To ease the thermal and space considerations of higher temperature industrial climates, the ADA4000-1 attains its speed and precision performance on a low 1.1mA supply current and is available in a tiny 2.9 x 3mm TSOT-23 package.

The ADA4000-1 performs well with ADI's precision convertors (AD7457, AD7893, AD7862, AD7545, and AD5327) and voltage references (AD584 and ADR01).

The ADA4000-1 is sampling now and will be available in production quantities in March 2006.

Dual and quad versions will be available in the first half of 2006.

The ADA4000-1 is fully specified over the extended industrial temperature range of -40 to +125C, and is packaged in both a 5-lead TSOT-23 and 8-lead SOIC.

Pricing is $0.91 per unit in 1000-piece quantities.

The ADR12x family, including the ADR127 (1.25V), ADR121 (2.5V) and ADR125 (5.0V) are sampling now and will be available in full production quantities in January 2006.

Available in 6-lead TSOT-23 packaging, each device is priced at $1.19 per unit in 1000 piece quantities.
