Speedy 12bit convertors cut consumption
New 12bit monolithic 20, 40 and 65Msample/s ADCs consume 40% less power than comparable devices
Analog Devices has extended its portfolio of high-performance analogue-to-digital convertors (ADCs) with a 12bit monolithic, 20/40/65Msample/s ADC that consumes 40% less power than comparable devices. Available in a 5 x 5mm package, the AD9237 combines small size and low power to reduce board space in portable instrumentation, ultrasound, high-end imaging, digital still camera, scanner and low-power communications applications.

The AD9237 is pin-to-pin compatible with existing members of ADI's high-performance family of ADCs, resulting in minimised board rework for system upgrades.
The AD9237 ADC is an ultra-low-power extension of the company's existing AD9235 family.
The device consumes a low 190mW of power at 65Msample/s, 135mW at 40Msample/s and 90mW at 20Msample/s, allowing for a higher channel count and simplified signal path to portable 12bit systems.

Further power savings is available with a scaling feature, which lowers the power as the speed of the convertor is reduced.
The AD9237 operates from a single 3V power supply and features a separate digital output driver supply to accommodate 2.5 and 3V logic families.
The AD9237 is pin compatible with ADI's 10bit AD9215, 12bit AD9235 and 14bit AD9245 20/40/65Msample/s ADCs, and also with the 12bit AD9236 and 14bit AD9245 80Msample/s ADCs.
This enables designers to easily change resolutions, speeds or upgrade performance in next-generation systems.
In addition, a patented SHA (sample-and-hold amplifier) input allows for a variety of user-selectable input ranges and offsets including single-ended applications.
The AD9237 is suitable for multiplexed systems that switch full-scale voltage levels in successive channels and for sampling single-channel inputs at frequencies well above the Nyquist rate.
The AD9237 is also recommended for use with several of ADI's leading amplifier products, including the AD8351.
The AD9237 20/40/65Msample/s ADCs are available now and priced between $7.75 and $12.40 per unit in 1000-piece quantities.
The devices are offered over the wider industrial temperature range (-40 to +85C) and are packaged in a space-saving 5 x 5mm 32-pin LFCSP (lead frame chip scale package).
