In addition to offering designers flexibility in frequency planning and IF selection, the AD8344 boasts the smallest footprint and lowest power specifications available on the RF IC market. Unlike conventional passive mixers that require many external components, the AD8344 active mixer integrates an on-chip local-oscillator (LO) driver and provides conversion gain, thus minimising the need for external gain stages.
Among its key benefits, the AD8344 provides designers a great degree of flexibility in frequency planning and IF selection.
To this end, the device features 50ohm broadband inputs for both the RF and LO ports.
The input frequency range spans from 400MHz to 1.2GHz; the LO frequency range spans from 400 to 1600MHz; and the intermediate frequency range spans from 70 to 400MHz.

Fabricated on Analog Devices' advanced silicon germanium (SiGe) complementary bipolar IC process, the AD8344 provides a high input linearity of +24dBm IIP3 with +3-dB conversion gain and an 11.5dB noise figure at 900MHz.
At 450MHz, the AD8344 provides a high input linearity of +15dBm IIP3, with +10dB conversion gain and an 8.5dB noise figure.
The low-power AD8344 operates on a single +5V supply and requires LO drive from -10 to +4dBm.
The device, which is the smallest active mixer on the market, is packaged in a space-saving 3 x 3mm LFCSP package.
The part is ideally suited for use in cellular GSM, CDMA and private mobile access equipment, such as Tetra.
Samples and evaluation boards are available now.
The AD8344 operates over a temperature range from -40 to +85C and is priced at $3.50 in 1000-piece quantities.
