The AMP Netconnect has released a single-mode version of the LightCrimp Plus range of fibre-optic connectors. These connectors are designed to complement the established multimode LightCrimp Plus connectors that have been widely used since their introduction more than four years ago. The single-mode connectors feature a new fibre splice engine technology that allows for the precision alignment of cabled fibre to the factory-polished stubbed ferrule, enabling installers to obtain low insertion loss and low reflectance.
The fibre is simple to terminate in three easy steps: stripping the fibre, cleaving the fibre and crimping the connector.
The performance of the LightCrimp Plus single-mode connectors exceeds the requirements of the TIA/EIA 568 B.3 and ISO/IEC 11801 insertion-loss and return-loss specifications.
The AMP Netconnect LightCrimp Plus family of connectors is ideal for direct termination applications at patch panels and wall outlets, and for either backbone or horizontal cabling.
"With the introduction of the single-mode AMP Netconnect LightCrimp Plus connectors, installing complete optical fibre networks is even easier than before", comments Julian Riley, UK Business Manager of Tyco Electronics/AMP Netconnect: "The increasing popularity of hybrid optical fibre networks using multimode and single-mode fibres has emphasised the need for a single termination system throughout the network.
Technological advances have allowed Tyco Electronics to develop a pre-polished, low insertion-loss single-mode connector that eliminates the need for manual polishing, making termination and installation faster for the installer - typically less than one minute per fibre".
Like the multimode AMP Netconnect LightCrimp Plus connectors, the single-mode design uses simple, reliable, and proven Tyco Electronics splicing technology, eliminating the need for epoxy, curing ovens, heat or power to achieve a high-quality connection.
"We expect installers to quickly adopt these connectors as the preferred technology for the termination of optical networks", adds Riley.
AMP Netconnect LightCrimp Plus connectors also offer additional benefits over other pre-polished connector products because they retain the same profile as a standard epoxy connector, simplifying installation.
The connectors feature a metal body that delivers robust and stable performance over time and can withstand temperature fluctuations over the range -10 to +60C, meeting the relevant TIA/EIA, IEC, CECC and EN standards.
Another added benefit to the installer is the fact that the same toolkit and procedures are used for the single-mode product as for the multimode AMP Netconnect LightCrimp Plus connectors.
A complete LightCrimp Plus Connector Installation Guide on CD-ROM is provided with every toolkit.
