A new comprehensive evaluation kit is available for the AMIS-52000 (formerly ASTRX2) single-chip, low-power 433.92MHz narrowband CMOS transceiver

The new kit will help designers of industrial, automotive and medical applications to quickly and easily evaluate and optimise the communication and power conservation performance of the highly configurable AMIS-52000 device. The AMIS-52000 evaluation kit comprises the hardware, software and documentation needed to set up PC-to-PC communications for evaluating the AMIS-52000 transceiver.

Using the software, the designer can configure the AMIS-52000 on-chip registers to emulate their specific application requirements.

This includes configuration of the device's proprietary "sniff mode" power conservation technology.

The AMIS-52000 is the only CMOS transceiver to offer the sniff mode and patent-pending "quick start" oscillator technology, which allow for programmable low power operation.

The receiver can wake-up from a very low-power sleep mode and detect in-band RF energy within 100us.

The evaluation kit software, with its built in oscilloscope, allows the user to configure and evaluate sniff mode for a specific application.

"Today's low datarate market requires very low power devices and silicon providers are constantly faced with technical tradeoffs to meet these demands", said Kirk Peterson, Wireless Product Line Manager for AMI Semiconductor.

"Devices with receivers that are constantly on, or that have long sleep-to-active transition times, consume more power than is necessary.

With sniff mode and quick start technology, the highly configurable AMIS-52000 is able to uniquely allow for lower overall receiver power.

Our AMIS-52000 evaluation kit allows users to observe this and many other features".

AMIS is currently shipping the AMIS-52000 evaluation kit, which is priced at $349.
