The VNC1L USB controller chip is designed to make it incredibly easy to integrate USB Host functionality into embedded products

New from Alpha Micro Components, the VNC1L USB controller chip is designed to make it incredibly easy to integrate USB Host functionality into embedded products. Priced 30% lower than similar devices, the VNC1L comes complete with FTDI's in-house developed firmware and royalty free drivers so there are no USB software stacks to write, no licence fees and users require minimal knowledge of USB to integrate these clever little devices.

FTDI's VNC1L USB Host controller IC is able to handle the USB Host interface, and data transfer functions through the inbuilt 8/32bit MCU and embedded Flash memory.

When interfacing to mass storage devices such as USB Flash drives, VNC1L transparently handles the FAT file structure communicating via UART, SPI or parallel FIFO interfaces via a simple to implement command set.

The VNC1L device features two USB ports which can be individually configured by firmware as host or slave ports.

USB Flash drives, digital cameras, PDAs and other USB slave peripherals in stand-alone mode can then be readily connected.

Christos Papakyriacou, Managing Director of Alpha Micro Components commented: 'FTDI's VNC1L Vinculum USB Host controller IC has been eagerly awaited'.

'It will continue to build on the already well established reputation of FTDI amongst embedded designers and will complement their existing popular range of serial to USB devices'.

'As an embedded USB host with excellent performance, much lower cost and hassle-free installation, engineers will certainly appreciate it'.
