Current sensors handle automotive heat
Allegro MicroSystems has added new 50 and 75A versions to its ACS750 family of open-loop Hall-effect current sensors
The ACS750xCA-050 and ACS750xCA-075 operate at temperatures from -40 to +150C, making them ideally suited to use in automotive applications as well as industrial systems. Each sensor consists of a precision linear Hall-effect integrated circuit and an internal magnetic circuit optimised to maximise device sensitivity.

Paper on high-speed low-noise current sensing
Innovative developments in high-speed low-noise current sensing will be presented in a paper given at the PCIM Conference, taking place in Nuremberg between 22nd and 24th May
The combination of a precisely controlled self-aligning assembly process (patents pending) and the factory programmed precision of the linear Hall sensor results in high levels of performance and product uniformity.
The devices operate from a single +5 V supply, and the primary conductor used for current sensing is designed for extremely low power loss.
The power terminals are electrically isolated from the sensor leads, eliminating the need for optoisolators or other costly isolation techniques.
The output of the device has a positive slope when an increasing current flows between the sensing terminals.
Sensitivity is -20mV/A for the 75A device and -40mV/A for the 50A sensor.
Other features include low thermal drift of the offset voltage and on-chip transient protection.
The compact package allows easy mounting by the customer.
Typical applications include motor current sensing, load detection, power management, switch-mode power-supply control, battery monitoring and overcurrent fault detection.
