More sensitivity for current sensor

Allegro MicroSystems has developed a novel design of current sensor based on a precision linear Hall-effect integrated circuit coupled with a magnetic circuit optimised to maximise device sensitivity.

Allegro MicroSystems has developed a novel design of current sensor based on a precision linear Hall-effect integrated circuit coupled with a magnetic circuit optimised to maximise device sensitivity. The entire assembly is housed in a new package configuration for easy mounting and implementation in automotive or industrial applications. The combination of a precisely controlled self-aligning assembly process (patents pending) and the factory-programmed precision of the Hall sensor results in a high degree of product uniformity and exceptional performance, particularly for sensing high currents.

The first device based on the new design is the ACS750, which will measure currents of up to +/-75A with an accuracy better than 1% and linearity better than 0.5%.

The sensor is designed for through-hole PCB mounting, with the power leads electrically isolated from the sensor leads.

The power leadframe used for current sensing is designed for extremely low power loss, and has an internal resistance of less than 1mohm.

The sensor exhibits a very low thermal drift of offset voltage (+/-0.008%) and of sensitivity (+/-0.01%), and has a response time of 23us.

The ACS750 is designed for 5V operation, and provides a ratiometric output from the supply voltage.

Applications include automotive systems, motor control, process instrumentation, servo controllers, power supplies and battery monitoring.
