The new A2521 from Allegro MicroSystems is an integrated high-side power switch circuit designed to supply power to external peripherals from battery-operated equipment. The device has an input voltage range of 2.5-7V, and the internal switch features low 'on' resistance (200mohm typical), which minimises the input voltage headroom requirement. The low quiescent current (1.5uA maximum) and running current (200uA typical) help to extend battery life.

Overcurrent is internally limited, and a 'soft start' feature eliminates the momentary voltage drop that can occur at an external peripheral when the switch is activated.

Thermal shutdown with hysteresis prevents switch damage from excessive loads.

In addition to providing peripheral power supplies for portable computing and communication systems, the A2521 can be used in 'hot swap' plug-in power supplies and battery-charge circuits.

The device is supplied in a 6-lead plastic surface-mount SOT-23 package.
