A new family of linear regulator circuits aims to meet the requirement for increased integration and reliability in low-voltage high-current applications such as personal computers and set-top boxes

The SI-30xxLSA Series from Allegro MicroSystems Europe is a new family of linear regulator circuits designed to meet the requirement for increased integration and reliability in low-voltage high-current applications such as personal computers and set-top boxes. Each device incorporates a monolithic low-level reference and control circuit with a high-current PNP transistor in a power multichip module (PMCM).

Regulated output voltages of 1.8, 2.5, 2.6, 3.3 or 4.8V from an input of up to 16V are available.

The high-current pass element provides a low dropout voltage with an output current of up to 1A.

Regulator accuracy of +/-2% and excellent temperature characteristics are provided.

A TTL or CMOS logic-compatible 'enable' input gives the designer complete control over power up, power down, and standby or sleep mode (with less than 1uA quiescent current).

Other features include internal foldback overcurrent limiting and thermal protection.

These devices are supplied in a fully moulded 8-lead miniature surface-mount package (on tape and reel) with enhanced power-dissipating qualities.

They are rated for continuous operation at temperatures between -30 and +100C.
