FBAR filters top 100 million shipment
mark
Agilent Technologies has shipped its 100 millionth FBAR (film bulk acoustic resonator) filter since the release of the product in December 2001.

FBAR filters shrink into GSM RF front ends
Agilent Technologies is shipping samples of the industry's smallest filters to select manufacturers for integration into GSM RF front-end modules.
Filter module has five for multifunction handsets
Module combines five individual FBAR filters to produce a totally passive solution for dual-band cellular communications with GPS.
FBAR filters are used in mobile phones, data cards and other wireless products operating in the US PCS frequency band.
Agilent's miniature FBAR filters are used in a variety of devices, including duplexers, which play a critical role in CDMA handsets and data cards.
Duplexers separate incoming from outgoing communications to allow for simultaneous, two-way voice or data transmission.
Full-band transmit filters are often used in addition to duplexers to reduce noise and enhance receiver sensitivity.
The current generation filter products shipping in volume are the Agilent ACPF-7002 FBAR full-band transmit filter, the ACMD-7401 FBAR duplexer and the ACMD-7401 FBAR duplexer used inside the Agilent AFEM-7731 front-end module.
The Agilent ACPF-7002 is the industry's smallest full-band transmit filter (1.0mm high with a 1.6 x 2.0mm footprint).
It eliminates the need for a second filter, a radio-frequency switch and associated passive components.
This reduces the printed circuit board area required for the transmit filter by up to 90%, while lowering manufacturing costs and eliminating the need for interface design and programming.
The Agilent ACMD-7401 is the industry's smallest FBAR duplexer.
Built with Agilent's innovative Microcap bonded-wafer, chip-scale packaging, it is less than one-tenth the volume of competing ceramic devices (1.4mm high with a 5.0 x 5.0mm footprint).
The Agilent AFEM-7731 is a fully matched CDMA 1900MHz front-end module, integrating Agilent's highly efficient ACPM-7833 E-pHEMT (enhancement-mode pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor) power amplifier with a miniature ACMD-7401 FBAR duplexer and all matching circuitry into a compact 5 x 8 x 1.3mm chip-on-board module.
Compared with designs using separate power amplifiers and duplexers, the AFEM-7731 features higher effective power-added efficiency (PAE) for longer talk time, and high isolation and low loss in the receive band for high sensitivity. Request a free brochure from Avago Technologies ...
