Agilent Technologies and InfiniCon Systems have demonstrated an InfiniBand-based clustered server environment designed to support high-performance computing and commercial database applications. The end-to-end InfiniBand demonstration features Agilent's 10Gbit/s InfiniBand switch silicon used in InfiniCon's InfinIO 7000 Shared I/O and clustering system, as well as Agilent's new channel adapter technology used in host channel adapter (HCA) boards. "China's rapid growth in information technology has fuelled significant investment in server and storage networking technologies", said Hungwen Li, Vice President and General Manager of Agilent's RedSwitch Division.

"Agilent's complete portfolio of InfiniBand technology and high-volume manufacturing capability enables systems companies such as InfiniCon to develop scalable, high-performance InfiniBand systems for deployment in China's newly constructed data centres".

The InfiniBand demonstration features the InfiniCon InfinIO 7000 System supporting a multinode, clustered server environment running parallel database applications from Oracle (9i) and IBM (DB/2), and a high-performance video-on-demand application.

The InfinIO 7000 also provides shared I/O connectivity for InfiniBand-based servers to seamlessly access Fibre Channel JBOD (just a bunch of disks) storage resources and Ethernet clients.

The demonstration reveals how easily and cost-effectively servers using Agilent's InfiniBand silicon technology can be integrated into storage and network infrastructures in today's data centres.

"Agilent's complete suite of InfiniBand silicon technology, as demonstrated today, provides a foundation for high bandwidth and low latency communication among servers and I/O devices", said Todd Matters, Chief Technology Officer of InfiniCon Systems.

"Along with our software and system architecture, Agilent's silicon is a key element in our InfinIO product line, allowing InfiniCon to deliver comprehensive, across-the-board performance in latency and bandwidth over InfiniBand, Ethernet and Fibre Channel".

The InfiniCon InfinIO 7000 uses the Agilent HDMP-2840 InfiniBand switch silicon, which includes 32 embedded serdes and offers eight ports, each running at 10Gbit/s full duplex.

These products are currently shipping in volume.

Engineering samples of the Agilent channel adapter technology are being used with InfiniCon's solution to provide a complete industry-standard InfiniBand network connection for enterprise servers and storage devices.

Agilent's channel adapter technology integrates a significant amount of enterprise-grade data integrity features to ensure the highest level of data reliability during network communication.

As an early supporter of InfiniBand technology, Agilent has a wide array of InfiniBand product offerings, ranging from test equipment and tools supporting development of the technology to a complete portfolio of InfiniBand silicon.
