Agilent Technologies has a new tricolour ChipLED surface-mountLED that permits next-generation handset and PDA designers to mixseparate red, green and blue light sources in any combination.This makes it easy for a manufacturer to select a backlightingcolour to differentiate its products, allowing colours to changebased on a particular application.

The Agilent HSMF-C118 ChipLEDis intended primarily for backlighting and status indicators inhandheld devices such as mobile phones and PDAs.
In handsets, forexample, separate colours can indicate incoming SMS messages,e-mail, stock news, and even identify different callers.
Inaddition to handhelds, the availability of an unlimited range ofillumination colours provides a new degree of design flexibilityin many other applications such as backlighting and statusindication in office and industrial equipment and homeappliances.
Agilent's tricolour ChipLED surface-mount LEDfeatures three die in a triangular matrix at the centre of thepackage combined with diffused optics to provide a smooth,consistent spatial radiation pattern and effective colour mixing.It features high-efficiency LED chips - AlInGaP for red, andInGaN for blue and green - to provide the highest brightness atlowest power consumption for handheld products.
The tricolour LEDfeatures a four-terminal common anode and is housed inAgilent's miniature 3.2 x 2.7 x 1.1mm ChipLED package.Precision manufacturing techniques ensure perfect pick-up byautomated manufacturing equipment.
The Agilent HSMF-C118 ChipLEDis available through Agilent's direct sales channel andglobal distribution partners.
It can be delivered within fourweeks.
