Agilent Technologies is participating in an industry-first tape backup and restore demonstration using iSCSI (Internet protocol small computer system interface) technology More than 45 storage networking companies are participating in real-life IT interoperability demonstrations, including storage leaders such as Brocade, Cisco, Compaq, EMC, Hewlett-Packard and IBM

The goal of iSCSI is to provide companies with a cost-effective storage networking solution that's easy to install, manage and service.

In the future, storage area networks (SANs) will seamlessly connect to the enterprise, metro and long-haul networks.

The iSCSI protocol enables block level data to be accessed anywhere within an IP/Ethernet network.

The tape backup and restore application demonstration will showcase Agilent's iSCSI platform serving as an initiator in a storage network using iSCSI version 0.9.

In this storage network, there are three different servers (initiators) that have the ability to access and retrieve data from five different storage arrays (targets) that are connected to a tape library.

"Tape backup and restore is one of the most fundamental uses of storage networking technology, and the first real 'killer application' for iSCSI-based storage networks", said Michael Huether, Director of Marketing Europe, Middle East, Africa, Semiconductor Products Group.

"Taking part in demonstrating this application using iSCSI places Agilent among the leading drivers of this emerging storage networking technology".

The demonstration will be located in the emerging technologies section of the SNW multi-vendor Interoperability Lab, and is one of several demonstrations being held at the Storage Networking World Conference and Expo.

The Interoperability Lab is designed to give end users and storage integrators a first hand look at solution providers' products in software and hardware collaboration.

It is organized and sponsored by member companies of the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) Interoperability Committee. Request free introductory details about products from Avago Technologies ...
