Agilent Technologies has completed its acquisition of Gefran Silicon Micro Systems, a fibre-optic technology laboratory, for approximately US $55 million in cash.

Agilent Technologies has announced the completion of its acquisition of Gefran Silicon Micro Systems, a fibre-optic-technology laboratory, for approximately US $55 million in cash, through Agilent's Italian subsidiary Gefran Silicon Micro Systems was an operation of Gefran Sensori, a subsidiary of Gefran of Provaglio d'Iseo, Italy

The acquisition of the Northern-Italy-based Silicon Micro Systems is part of Agilent's ongoing investment in the high-growth fibre-optic area.

It adds capabilities that are expected to afford Agilent time-to-market advantages in its expanding fibre-optic-component offerings.

Silicon Micro Systems is now part of Agilent's Turin Technology Center (TTC), which focuses on fibre-optic technology used in communications networks.

Silicon Micro Systems' expertise complements Agilent's strengths in fibre-optic transceivers.
