Agere Systems has honoured four suppliers with its Strategic Supplier Award for 2006 and recognised 11 other suppliers for their commitment to driving operational excellence in Agere's supply chain. 'As a semiconductor provider, Agere understands first-hand the value a strong supplier can bring to the success of a customer', said Weng Chee Tang, Chief Procurement Officer for Agere Systems. 'These companies are critical in helping Agere realise efficiencies and improve execution acrossour operations'.

The businesses are evaluated on multiple criteria including cost, technology, responsiveness, quality and supply assurance.

The winners of Agere's Strategic Supplier Awards, which recognise leadership across specific commodity areas, are: Taiwan semiconductor manufacturing Co, which was named Supplier of 2006 and also took the award for Best-in-Class for Contract Manufacturing; ARM Holdings was recognised as Most Improved Supplier of 2006; Eastern Co was named Best-in-Class Supplier of Direct/Indirect Material; and Teradyne was named Best-in-Class Supplier - General Procurement.

Agere's 15 Strategic Suppliers for 2006 (listed alphabetically) are: Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, Amkor Technology, ARM Holdings, ASM Pacific Technology, Cadence Design Systems, Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing, Dai Nippon Printing Co, Eastern Co, Federal Express Corporation, Oracle Corporation, Shinko Electric Industries Co, Synopsys, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, Teradyne and Verigy.

'Our top award winners are those who have differentiated themselves by going the extra mile to bring special value to the relationship'.

'Agere will continue to develop and build on such value-added relationships and collaboration to give us the competitive advantage required to win in this industry', said Tang.

Now in its fourth year, Agere's Strategic Supplier Initiative was held this week in San Jose, California, inviting representatives from each supplier to thank them for their continuous improvement in providing materials, equipment and services.

'Strong supplier relationships are fundamental to strengthening both our competitive position and those of our customers, and we thank ARM, Eastern, Teradyne and TSMC and all of our strategic suppliers for their efforts in ensuring our success', said Tang.
