Traffic management chip
is key to router
Laurel Networks has integrated Agere's PayloadPlus traffic management and network processor semiconductor solution into its award-winning ST200 service edge router
The ST200, which has used Agere's chips since the product's introduction, has been deployed by telecommunications service providers in the USA, Europe and Asia to provide a wide range of switched and routed services. The flagship product of Laurel Networks, the ST200 service edge router is the only router designed from the ground up with the features required at the edge of a service provider Internet protocol/multiprotocol layer switch (MPLS) backbone.

"The unprecedented service flexibility of the ST200 requires a powerful chip solution to enable multiservice support at wire speed", said Steve Vogelsang, Laurel Networks cofounder and Vice President of Marketing.
"When designing the ST200, we looked at a number of network processors, and only the Agere solution met our requirements".
Agere ranks first worldwide in sales of traffic management chips.
Traffic management is a key function of the solution Agere has delivered to Laurel.
"Laurel and Agere share a similar vision of reducing operations costs for telecommunications service providers via a single, multiservice platform architecture", said John Rolfe, Senior Marketing Manager with Agere Systems.
"This relationship gives Agere the opportunity to work with one of the industry's most dynamic companies on the cutting-edge of multiservice product development and performance".
