Tality Corp, a subsidiary of Cadence Design Systems, is collaborating in the development of Advantest's Bluetooth Protocol Tester. The tester will perform Bluetooth protocol prequalification and production test according to the Bluetooth Test Specification. Tality will develop a signalling card that provides the physical layer and protocol for the Bluetooth test environment.
Advantest will develop signal and user interfaces to enable integration of the card into the overall test system, as well as test management and control software.
Advantest will also license Tality's Bluetooth baseband controller core and protocol stack.
The tester will address a significant challenge in the design of Bluetooth systems, namely prequalification test and debug.
This challenge can significantly delay a product's time-to-market, which is a serious problem when market windows are measured in months.
The tester will combine the test equipment and instrumentation expertise of Advantest with the Bluetooth expertise and IP of Tality, to put Bluetooth pre-qualification test capability into the hands of development engineers.
The tester will also be aimed at low-volume production test.
Masakazu Ando, managing director and general manager of Advantest's Instruments Business Group, said, "Tality's Bluetooth design expertise, accumulated from over 25 system and chip design projects, will help us to accelerate the design of our Bluetooth protocol tester.
The tester will be ready for the numerous Bluetooth designs expected over the next few years".
Brent Hudson, vice president and general manager of Tality's wireless and multimedia design group, said, "Prequalification test and debug capabilities for Bluetooth system development are critical in time-to-market and product quality.
Advantest's application-specific tester approach will enable the proliferation of Bluetooth test capability to a market lacking in Bluetooth test expertise".
