Defense Supplier Center Columbus has released Standard Microcircuit Drawing numbers for Actel's high-reliability radiation-tolerant RTAX2000S, RTAX1000S and RTAX250S devices
Defense Supplier Center Columbus (DSCC) has released Standard Microcircuit Drawing (SMD) numbers for Actel's high-reliability radiation-tolerant RTAX2000S, RTAX1000S and RTAX250S devices. Signalling compliance with the Department of Defense's MIL-PRF-38535 performance standard, designers can use SMD numbers to specify the high-performance RTAX2000S field-programmable gate array (FPGA) for their space-flight applications.

Radiation-tolerant one-million-gate FPGA forms part of the meteorological station onboard NASA's recently launched Phoenix mission to Mars
The SMD release, a key industry recognition of high quality, enables designers to more easily procure and utilise the high-performance RTAX-S devices in their space technology designs and across all DoD programmes.
Actel is also pursuing QML class V certification for the RTAX-S family.
The highest level of screening for space parts within the QML programme, class V certification verifies that quality processes and qualification data have been examined and approved by DSCC, SMC and NASA.

The low-power radiation-tolerant RTAX-SL FPGA family is specifically targeted at high-reliability space-flight designs
Actel is working to implement the screening process by the end of 2006 and plans to have QML-V certified RTAX-S product availability by the end of 2007.
'By achieving compliance with stringent DSCC and DoD requirements, we can assure our customers that we take seriously the industry's measures of the highest quality for high-reliability radiation-tolerant FPGAs', said Ravi Pragasam, Senior Manager of Military and Aerospace Product Marketing at Actel.
'We also recognise our customers' desire for QML-V certification for our popular high-performance RTAX-S family; therefore, we are taking the necessary steps to deliver this to the space market, a further demonstration of our commitment to these customers'.
Designed to withstand the rigors of space-flight applications, the Actel radiation-tolerant RTAX-S FPGA family consists of devices ranging in density from 250,000 to 4-million equivalent system gates.
The family offers unique features, such as SEU-hardened flip-flops, usable error-corrected onboard memory and a large number of user I/O, desirable for space-flight applications.
These, in combination with the inherent benefits of Actel's nonvolatile products, give designers the ability to reduce component count, minimise power consumption and save board space and weight while meeting their density, performance and radiation-resistance requirements.
