Engineers at Valeo depend on continuous innovation to increase the level of in-cab digital information and entertainment, whilst simultaneously reducing the wiring overhead.
A particularly innovative solution to this problem from Valeo enables data and control signal transmission to be implemented using the vehicles' existing power supply network.
eX FPGAs from Actel have enabled this next generation communications bus using the DC current as a carrier.
Valeo relied on the eX pin-locking capabilities, to allow design iterations with different feature sets and options, while maintaining the same footprint on their boards.
Actel's eX FPGAs were selected for their reliability, small form factor, low power, and ease of use.
The flexible eX FPGAs also met Valeo's rigorous quality control standards for the demanding automotive environment.
Actel's automotive eX family is characterised for operation from -40 to +125C ambient temperature and up to 150C junction temperature - the highest temperatures among competing FPGA solutions.
It comprises three products, the eX64A, eX128A and the eX256A, all available in 2.5 or 3.3V operating modes.
For these new automotive solutions, Actel offers customers the industry's broadest package portfolio certified to extended automotive temperatures, including chip scale (CS) and fine-pitch ball-grid array (FBGA).
The automotive eX family is available now in prototyping and production-level volumes.
