Promax, Abacus Group's Nordic subsidiary, is to target embedded computing and Internet applications with two major new franchises, Microsoft Embedded Operating Systems and WIZnet Internet-on-a-chip. The new franchises will allow Promax to offer a more complete solution to customers with embedded PC applications, and PC-less Internet access applications, according to Peter Busck, Managing Director of Promax. He said: "We are already talking to a great many customers in the access control, factory automation, information appliance, mobile communication devices, medical equipment, gaming, electronic point of sale and kiosk markets.

With the addition of a key range of operating systems from Microsoft, and a very straightforward to integrate Internet access solution from WIZnet, we will be able to support these customers much more effectively".

Busck added: "There is also a great fit between these new franchises, and the Trident range of display products and systems that we have just started supporting in the Nordic region".

Under its agreement with Microsoft, Promax will support the full range of Microsoft Embedded Operating Systems, including Windows XP embedded, Windows CE.NET, and Windows NT Embedded 4.0.

Windows XP Embedded is the componentised version of Windows XP Professional, offering industry-leading reliability, security, and performance coupled with the latest multimedia, web browsing, power management, and device support.

Microsoft Windows CE.NET is a robust real-time operating system for rapidly building the next generation of smart mobile and small footprint devices.

Windows NT Embedded 4.0 is the full-featured, embedded operating system for PC architecture-based solutions demanding the richest applications and services.

Under its agreement with WIZnet, Promax will be supporting Scandinavian customers with its novel hardwired TCP/IP solutions, to bring complete Internet connectivity to electronic devices in the most cost-effective way.

The W3100A is world's first Ethernet based TCP/IP hardwired chip.

It contains Internet protocol (TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, ARP, DLC and MAC) for Internet connectivity and supports four independent channels at the same time.

Also it can be interfaced with any physical layer (PLC, optical, wireless etc) support MII (Media Independent Interface).
